Jamaal Bowman Pulls Fire Alarm

Representative Jamaal Bowman Pleads Guilty to False Fire Alarm

New York Democrat Admits to Triggering Alarm in Congressional Office Building

Washington, D.C. - Representative Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) pleaded guilty Thursday to a misdemeanor charge for falsely triggering a fire alarm in a congressional office building.

The incident occurred on January 8, 2023, when Bowman pulled a fire alarm in the Cannon House Office Building. The alarm caused the building to be evacuated, and the DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department responded.

Bowman initially denied pulling the alarm, but he later admitted to doing so in a statement to the Capitol Police. He said he pulled the alarm because he was "upset" about something that had happened earlier that day.

Bowman's guilty plea comes after he was charged by the DC attorney general with one count of pulling a false fire alarm. The charge is punishable by up to six months in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Bowman is scheduled to be sentenced on March 15, 2023.
